Learning To Wait

I picked up on the word surprise as a direction I’d like to grow in as 2023 unfolds. I’m paying close attention to what happens when I trust that what God wants to accomplish isn’t dependent on me at all!! When I settle on a goal or a desire that I’d really love to see come to fruition, I tend to wrestle with it and push my agenda, often becoming anxious and disillusioned when I think it’s not coming about fast enough. If I can instead share that goal and desire with God…whisper my intention to help it come about, but assure God I’m willing to enter into the Divine Passage of Time!

I could pray this way:

“Surprise me, Holy One………slow me down………show me that your Spirit moves at a different pace. Show me how to wait………paying close attention to miracles!”

Time and time again I’ve been shown this way of acquiescing is THE WAY………but how often, as human beings, do we want to make things happen sooner and OUR WAY?

I’ve already been surprised by events unfolding just the way they should have in 2023, and it’s only the first week of March!! Of course, I wasted precious hours in 2021 and 2022 worried “these same things” would never happen! Guess what?? A couple huge desires DID happen in God’s time, and as it turns out they happened even richer and more delightful than I ever could have imagined!! SURPRISE!!

Have any of you ever discovered something similar in your experience? Certainly something to think about during this month of March when we move our clocks ahead and “save” daylight time!! More hours of light to try to live in Divine Time…more time to be surprised by how our good God works when we acquiesce!

This year, I’m springing ahead into Godtime and I’m expecting surprises!!

Happy Lenten practices, whatever ones you’ve chosen this year, and DO take time to greet the arrival of Spring at the Equinox………perhaps even by learning to slide gently into God’s way of doing things! Spend some time watching how slowly but surely the world turns green….bring some signs of Spring into your home…go outside at dawn and feel the subtle but certain change in the wind, in the smell of the soil.

Look for other ways to greet Spring in your home space, your prayer space, your heart space………by reading the chapter on Spring in my book, “A Seasoned Life,” available on Amazon.

I wish you many March surprises!
